History: 2006

Imagine snowy fields, all ‘assets’ of the city of Amsterdam, more snow and some awesome lacrosse. You got the picture? Yes, this sums up Lowlands lacrosse 2006. A total of 12 teams, both men and women, packed their bags, entered a car or plane and played the second edition of Lowlands.

Teams from England, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands competed during the 3-day tournament at the fields of rugby club ARC. At Friday we had an opening drink in the center of Amsterdam which almost all teams visited to get to know each other. Saturday hell broke loose with Amsterdam winning its first game against East Grinstead and Dublin, the winner of the tournament, crushing Bremen with some high class lacrosse. At the other side of the terrain the women of Gottingen started their ‘winning streak’ with a draw against Dublin lacrosse. The rest of the day we saw some muddy but still nice looking lacrosse at all fields of ARC.

At the end of Saturday another bar in the center was packed with all teams to celebrate a successful first day. After the party some stuff happened at the Leidseplein and Red Light District but as we always say after Lowlands is: “what happens in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam”. Or do we?!

At Sunday everybody was “fris and fruitig” to play some other games. Of course this was the reason for everybody to come to Amsterdam, so nothing wrong with that. In an exciting match Heidelberg defeated Amsterdam lacrosse with 4-3 to be the second finalist. If only Arttu Sesselaar made the last shot, all would have been different. Spencer lacrosse took the first price home to the land of fish and chips in a easy final game against Heidelberg. At the other field a great game took place between the ladies of Dublin and Gottingen. With 8-7 Gottingen gave themselves a nice trip back to Germany to be the first official women’s team winning Lowlands Lacrosse! I still wake up crying at night. What a great win!

Thanks again everybody for a great tournament and we hope to see you guys back soon for another version of Lowlands “Springbreak!” lacrosse.
