History: 2009

During Amsterdam’s sunniest weekend of the year, the Lowlands Lacrosse Tournament 2009 took place. Teams from all over Europe gathered to play the best lacrosse Europe has ever seen. Enthusiasm, sportsmanship, awesome parties and great lacrosse joined everybody into making this year’s Lowlands Tournament an unforgettable event.

Saturday the 23rd of May at ten o’clock in the morning all attending men and women teams from Germany, Denmark, Austria, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands stood anxiously waiting along the sideline to watch Lowlands’ opening face-off between Amsterdam and Karlsruhe. The first bodies got checked, the first defenders got dodged, the first goals got scored and everybody’s excitement grew. With each team having to play four games on Saturday there was enough time for everyone to get into their flow and strive for their ultimate goal: winning the Lowlands Cup 2009.

After an intense first day of fierce competition and tough lacrosse, all attendants were invited to get a taste of Amsterdam’s rocking nightlife. The great performance from Go Back To The Zoo and the pumping sounds of our local DJ got everybody’s blood rushing and dance moves showing. By the end of the night everybody was exhausted and had to get some sleep in order to perform their best at the next important game day, the day of the Lowlands finals!

The excitement had easily beaten the exhaustion during the first games of the day. The shining sun once again brought out the best in everyone. With the awareness of every single game being more important than the one before, the competition between the teams fiercely grew every second. Eventually two men and two women teams had to fight the ultimate battle.

In the women's division, The Dutch National team had to give in to the quick and tight playing Jin & Juice from the United Kingdom. During an exciting game, Jin & Juice came out on top, wining the final with 5 to 9 and taking home the Lowlands Cup 2009.

The men's final was a game on the edge. Spencer won the first game against the Amsterdam Lions in the group match, but in the final the Lions showed they were anticipating a rematch. Although the Lions fought hard, it was soon clear that it was not an easy game. While Amsterdam constantly took the lead, Spencer kept scoring their equalizers. But when the whistle was blown Spencer was to late to recover their mistakes. The Amsterdam Lions won 8 to 6, making them the convincing winner for the Lowlands Cup 2009!
